Images of the Argument drone based on the CP-10 aircraft appeared

A new attack unmanned aerial vehicle can be created on the basis of the Russian SR-10 light jet trainer aircraft. He received the name AR-10 "Argument".

Judging by the published images, this UAV looks a lot like the original aircraft, it has the same characteristic external difference from most other modern aircraft - the wings are swept back.

AR-10 will have an intra-fuselage compartment, which can accommodate various samples of modern high-precision weapons.

It is noted that the maximum length of the drone will be 9.7 meters, the wingspan is 8.4 meters, and the height is 5.4 meters.

Maximum takeoff weight - 3850 kg, landing weight - 2430 kg, equipment weight - 680 kg.

The maximum speed at an altitude of 6 km will reach 910 km / h, cruising speed - 800 km / h. The service ceiling is 11,500 meters.

The declared range with outboard fuel tanks is 2100 km. The maximum range is 950 km. The flight duration is 6 hours.

Let us recall that the CP-10 aircraft made its first flight in 2015 and is highly appreciated by aviation specialists.

Several types of military UAVs are currently being created in Russia, for example, Orion is known, the export version of which was demonstrated at the IDEX 2021 exhibition in Abu Dhabi. The tests of the Okhotnik strike drones are also underway.

It should be noted that India was pleased with the actions of Russian aircraft in battle.

Pakistan marked the second anniversary of its Air Force's operation during the Indo-Pakistani conflict on 27 February 2019 last Saturday. The Pakistani air attack was a rather unexpected response to the Indian Air Force's attacks on a training camp in Balakot on February 26, 2019, where, according to the Indian side, Kashmiri militants were being trained for battle.

Su-30MKI fighters of the Indian Air Force very successfully counterattacked Pakistani aircraft, while one of the aircraft even managed to evade the Pakistani AMRAAM missile. As a result of all the actions of Indian pilots, at least 10 of all 12 missiles fired by Pakistani planes fell very far from their intended targets.

“Despite the numerical superiority in the sky, not everything went according to the plan of the Pakistani Air Force. On that day, fighter pilots from both sides tested their strength in the sky for the first time in a long time, ”said Indian military expert Samir Joshi.

According to him, the Su-30MKI fighters in the end simply thwarted the attack of the Pakistani Air Force.

In another post, Joshi also stressed that the Pakistani Air Force jets were very well protected from the Indian Armed Forces anti-aircraft missiles, but the Su-30MKI counterattack was able to catch them off guard.

Now the Indian side, impressed by this, is considering a proposal from Russia to supply an additional batch of such Su-30MKI fighters.

Top US Air Force general isn’t ready to buy E-7 Wedgetail just yet

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Air Force’s top general wants to take a deliberative approach to replacing its aging E-3 airborne early warning and control planes. In other words, he isn’t ready to commit to the Boeing-made E-7 Wedgetail, despite support from the service’s top general in the Asia-Pacific region.

“I want to actually look at what options do we have,” Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. CQ Brown said during a Febl. 25 roundtable with reporters for the Air Force Association’s Aerospace Warfare Symposium. “It would be premature for me to commit to the Wedgetail right now, or a timeline. This is something I have to spend a little more time on looking at. But I realize there are some Wedgetail fans out there.”

One of those fans is Gen. Kenneth Wilsbach, commander of Pacific Air Forces, who told reporters Feb. 24 that he is in favor of a near-term purchase of the Boeing 737-based Wedgetail to replace the aging E-3 Sentry, which is based on the older Boeing 707 and colloquially called “AWACS.”

“The fact is, we actually need something relatively quick because of the reliability of the E-3,” Wilsbach said, according to Air Force Magazine. “It gets harder and harder to get airborne.”

The Air Force currently maintains an inventory of 31 E-3s, which were produced between 1971 and 1984. The E-3 is expected to fly until 2035, but the task of maintaining the aircraft is becoming harder as parts become obsolete and more difficult to source.

Because of “sustainment challenges related to supply of needed parts and maintenance of the aging aircraft,” the Air Force’s E-3 fleet did not meet its availability goals in fiscal years 2011 through 2019, the Government Accountability Office stated in a 2020 report.

The U.S. Air Force has not rolled out a plan for replacing the E-3, but rumors have swirled over recent years about the service’s interest in adding the Wedgetail to its budget if enough money can be found. However, there currently is no Air Force program of record for the E-7 Wedgetail.

Boeing originally developed the E-7 for the Royal Australian Air Force, which introduced the plane into service in 2009. Since then, the aircraft has been procured by Turkey and South Korea. The United Kingdom has also committed to buying five Wedgetails, with its first plane expected to be delivered in 2023.

In 2018, during his time as Pacific Air Forces commander, Brown flew in an Australian E-7 and spoke with Royal Australian Air Force officials about the aircraft.

On Thursday, Brown said his experience onboard the Wedgetail showed that it was a “capable platform,” but he still wants to look at other options.

“As I’m talking to our staff here, and we look at the E-3 and the mission-capable rates for the E-3 and what we’re spending on it today, we’re going to have to do something. I don’t know what that ‘something’ is yet,” he said. “We’ve got to really look at what the options are, and the Wedgetail is one of those. But it may not be the only option.”

First steel cut for the first of two new Fincantieri-built FREMMs for OCCAR and Italian Navy - EDR Magazine

25/02/2021
By Luca Peruzzi

With a sober ceremony at Fincantieri’s Riva Trigoso shipyard on 25 February, the Italian shipbuilding group cut the first steel for the first of two new FREMM frigates destined to the Italian Navy. These new Bergamini-class platforms in the General Purpose (GP) configuration will replace, as confirmed by the Italian Minister of Defence, Lorenzo Guerini, during the Parliament hearing last July, the two frigates – Spartaco Schergat and Emilio Bianchi – respectively under delivery and fitting out for the Italian Navy, which were sold later last year to the Egyptian Minister of Defence. In addition to the new two FREMM platforms, which according to the Italian Minister of Defence will be delivered to the Italian Navy without additional costs, the Italian industry, as a further compensation for the deal, will provide an in-service support and logistic package in order to extend the service life of the remaining Maestrale-class frigates until the delivery of the two new FREMMs.

Since 20 years from the initial agreement between the French and Italian Ministers of Defence and Navies, the joint programme managed by the OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d’Armement / Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) agency, has entered in a new production phase and will see the number of FREMM frigates built under the programme umbrella growing to 22 including the platforms sold to foreign customers.

The Italian Ministry of Defence has given the mandate to OCCAR to proceed with the contract modifications to replace the last two frigates with additional two scheduled to be delivered respectively in February and August 2025. These will feature configuration modifications and enhancements to cope in advance with obsolescence issues, while maintaining a minimum operational lifespan of 25 years, OCCAR confirmed to EDR On-Line.

A configuration review is being conducted to identify obsolescence, the completion of  the Critical Design Review (CDR) being planned for the middle of this year. EDR On-Line understood that among major combat systems the ones under review and subjected to enhancements are the MBDA SAAM ESD missile air defence system based on the Aster 15/30 family of missiles operating alongside the Leonardo Kronos Grand Naval active phased array multifunction radar and the communications suite. Moreover, the integrated platform management system and its subsystems, alongside the electrical power generation suite will be also considered for enhancements or replacement and reviewed. No further details have been released but EDR On-Line understood that technological developments and enhancements introduced with the Legge Navale programme on the new platforms, including the Pattugliatori Polivalenti d’Altura (PPA), the Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) and the Logistic Support Ship (LSS), are expected to be applied to the new FREMMs in order to ensure commonality and reduce costs while providing state-of-the-art systems.

Almost 20 years after being launched the Italian-French FREMM program represents a success not only for the cooperation between the two countries, under the OCCAR umbrella, but also on the worldwide scenario of naval programmes and shipbuilding. In addition to the export market, which could expand further, the Italian platform was chosen by the US Navy for the Constellation-class FFG programme, demonstrating the soundness of the platform and propulsion system solutions. A first example of that consolidation of the European shipbuilding industry that today continues to develop and impress a further turning point in the military sector, again thanks to Italy and France and respectively to the shipbuilding industries represented by Fincantieri and Naval Group, which gave birth to the Naviris joint venture, and to the security and defense industries headed by Thales, Leonardo and MBDA.
