Saab receives $36
million order for Carl Gustaf weapons

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Saab has received a $36
million contract to produce and deliver portable Carl Gustaf weapon systems for
an unnamed customer.
The contract includes production orders for both the M3 and M4
variants, the latter of which was designed in 2014. Saab officials say the
order is a testament to the platform's performance.
"This is an important order for Saab and our Carl-Gustaf
portfolio. The interest for both the M3 and the latest M4 version is
strong," Saab Dynamics head Görgen Johansson said in a press release. "The Carl Gustaf system has an impressive
track record and this is a strong proof of the trust our customers place in the
system."
Saab's Carl Gustaf is a shoulder-fired, multi-role weapon system
designed to afford operators the option to choose between a variety of
ammunitions. The M3 variant, designed in 1991, featured reduced weight and
additional improvements from previous versions.
The weapon has been procured by over 40 countries. The latest
version has been ordered by four countries, and continues the weight reduction
trend from 22 pounds to 15 pounds.
