The US is sourcing spare parts to sustain Taiwan’s ageing fleet of Northrop Grumman F-5 Tiger II fighter aircraft alongside the upgraded Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcons that the Asian nation has begun to receive.

In a sources sought solicitation issued on 1 November, the US Air Force (USAF) said that it was looking for industry to supply F-5 parts, beginning later this fiscal year. Responses are required by 1500 h Mountain Standard Time on 16 November.

As noted in the request for information (RFI), the USAF is looking to source 45 items ranging from windshield panels through to circuit cards, as it looks to sustain the Republic of China Air Force’s (RoCAF’s) single-seat F-5E and twin-seat F-5F platforms that have been in service since 1974 and 1976 respectively.
