RoCAF facing issues
with Wan Chien cruise missile
Up Media says the Republic of China Air Force
(RoCAF) has decided to slow down the acceptance of the indigenous Wan Chien
cruise missile after two recent test-firings reveal production issues with the
weapon.
During the first
test, the missile’s powerplant failed to light up at high altitude, the engine
was started after the missile had descended to lower altitudes. A second test
was then scheduled and this time, the engine failed to start up again. To make
matters worse, the wings failed to deploy fully.
The service plans to conduct further test firings next year
after the cause have been determined.
