Russia launched a hypersonic Kinzhal ballistic missile during a Black Sea exercise

Russia launched a hypersonic Kinzhal ballistic missile during a Black Sea exercise:

MOSCOW, (BM) – The Supreme Commander of the Russian Armed Forces, Vladimir Putin, watched from the board of the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov the course of the joint exercises of the Northern and Black Sea fleets in the Black Sea, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, quoting Gazeta.ru.

During them, participants performed rocket firing, including Caliber cruise missiles and the Kinzhal (Dagger) hypersonic aerial ballistic missile.

The exercises involved more than 30 ships, a submarine of the Black Sea Fleet and over 40 aircraft of the Russian aerospace forces.

From the Black Sea Fleet, the frigates Admiral Grigorovich, Admiral Makarov, small missile ships and missile boats Orekhovo-Zuevo, Naberezhnye Chelny and Ivanovets participated in practical activities. The maneuvers involved the large landing ships Caesar Kunikov and Azov, the patrol ships Dmitry Rogachev and Vasily Bykov, the Kolpino submarine, small anti-submarine ships and sea minesweepers.

The Northern Fleet, in turn, presented the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov at the exercises. On board were deployed a campaign headquarters where Putin, Minister of Defense Sergey Shoigu, and Navy Commander Nikolai Evmenov were stationed. A large anti-submarine ship of the Northern Fleet, Vice Admiral Kulakov, also participated in the exercises.

The aviation part of the exercises was presented, in particular, by a pair of MiG-31K fighters who fired live with a “Dagger” rocket at a target at one of the firing ranges. The crews of “Admiral Grigorovich”, “Orekhovo-Zuevo” and “Kolpino” carried out launches from surface and underwater positions with Caliber missiles.

Missile boats Ivanovets and Naberezhnye Chelny launched Mosquito anti-ship missiles. The combat calculations of the Black Sea Fleet cliff coastal missile complex performed two missile launches for targets that imitated conditional enemy ships.

In addition, the crews of Su-30SM multipurpose fighters, Su-24M front-line bombers and Tu-95 strategic bombers were attracted to maneuvers.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) conducted continuous visual observation of the exercises.

Nikolai Evmenov reported to the head of state on the successfully completed exercises at the end. Putin gave the order to complete the maneuvers and curtail the group.

Training fire “Caliber” was carried out at the end of last year from the frigate of the Russian Navy “Admiral Essen” in the Black Sea. The test video was published by the Zvezda TV channel. In the shots taken from drones, it is clear that a cruise missile hit a target on a coastal training ground. She flew along a complex trajectory of about 250 km in 137 seconds. According to the head of the information support department of the Black Sea Fleet, captain of the second rank Alexei Rulev, supersonic fighters monitored the flight path of the Caliber.

According to him, this was already the second Caliber shooting, carried out by the crews of the new Black Sea Fleet frigates. Last August, Admiral Grigorovich successfully hit Caliber with a naval target that imitated a conditional enemy’s ship.

Today, Caliber cruise missiles are one of the most effective weapons used by the ships and submarines of the Russian Navy. These missiles were widely used during the Russian military operation in Syria. In the Arab Republic, they have proven their high performance characteristics.

Launched during the exercises in the Black Sea, “Dagger” has been on combat duty in the Russian army since December 1, 2017. The President of Russia spoke about him in his annual address to the Federal Assembly, with which he spoke on March 1, 2018. Then he devoted more than 40 minutes to the development of new weapons.

As Putin emphasized, the flight performance of the MiG-31 Dagger carrier aircraft allows the missile to be delivered to the designated drop point “in minutes”.

According to him, a rocket that exceeds the speed of sound up to ten times during a flight is capable of maneuvering in all parts of the flight.
