Poland will soon be able to finally buy American tanks , the US State Department has approved the delivery of 250 Abrams tanks in the modern version of the M1A2 SEPv3 to Warsaw. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of the Republic Mariusz Blashak.
The head of the Polish military department made an entry on his Twitter page, in which he said that the US State Department had agreed to the sale of 250 Abrams tanks. As Blaszczak stressed, this is extremely important for strengthening the defense capability of Poland and is one of the most important contracts in its history .
Literally a month ago, a group of American congressmen called on the US administration to make a decision on the delivery of tanks to Poland as soon as possible, arguing this with the alleged "Russian threat." According to congressmen, Poland, with the help of American tanks, will not only ensure security on the right flank of NATO, but even cover Ukraine.
The fact that Poland intends to purchase 250 American M1A2 Abrams tanks became known in July last year. The deal itself drew a lot of criticism in Poland, but Blaszczak managed to push through the decision to buy Abrams, saying that the Polish army would receive "the most modern, battle-tested tanks" built specifically to counter the Russian Armata. The arguments of the Polish Minister of Defense were no different from the American ones, they featured the Russian threat and the possibility of neutralizing it, but only with the help of M1A2 Abrams tanks.
The Polish Ministry of Defense believes that American tanks will bring the Polish army to a new level. Critics of the deal ask several questions at once: why buy American tanks for huge money, for which there is no base, no spare parts, no developed logistics in Europe; why does the Polish army need a third type of tanks, if the T-72M1 / PT-91 tanks and the German Leopard 2 are already in service; and why place all American tanks next to Russia if they can be covered with the first blow.
