Rosoboronexport (ROE) and the Jordanian company Jadara have agreed to open a licensed production of anti-tank guided missiles from the Kornet-E complex in Jordan. The official representative of the Russian organization told reporters about this during the defense exhibition IDEX-2021.

According to him, during the event, negotiations were held between Rosoboronexport and the company Jadara Equipment and Defense Systems. "The parties agreed to organize the licensed discharge production of ATGMs of the 9M133-1 and 9M133F-1 types from the Kornet-E ATGMS," the ROE representative said.

"Kornet-E" is designed to destroy tanks, armored combat vehicles with dynamic protection and destruction of fortifications. The maximum range of the shooting is 5.5 km away.

On the eve of the IDEX-2021 arms exhibition in Abu Dhabi, the T-14 Armata tank was presented to international companies for the first time. Six foreign countries expressed their desire to buy it.

The arms exhibition will run in Abu Dhabi from 21 to 25 February.

According to an informed source, the new Russian tank was able to independently, without the participation of crew members, find and recognize the target.

Russia continues to refine its most advanced main battle tank (MBT) - the T-14 based on the "Armata". As an informed source in the defense industry told RIA Novosti, the vehicle for the first time in the history of tank building was able to find and recognize targets on its own. The crew members did not take part in this.

During one of the stages, the fire control system (FCS) was tested on a special stand. “Tests were also carried out at the test site, where samples of Russian armored vehicles were used as search targets for the“ Armata ”. According to the results of all stages, the compliance of the system efficiency with the declared combat characteristics was confirmed, ”added the agency's source.

According to him, the fire control system is equipped with a digital catalog with signatures of typical targets: it includes infantry fighting vehicles, tanks, helicopters, and so on.

Tower T-14

Thanks to the use of artificial intelligence, on-board computing facilities themselves can search for targets: this is realistic even if part of the object hides a shelter. Selection of targets and their support is possible. Search and target acquisition is carried out by a combined system operating in both visible and infrared ranges. In this case, the decision to defeat the target is made by the MBT commander.

It is worth saying that automation elements are now present on many tanks, however, no other MBT probably has such an "advanced" OMS as today.

Information about the automatic testing of the T-14 was confirmed by the press service of the Uralvagonzavod concern, the tank manufacturer. At the same time, the corporation did not talk about the details of the tests.

Regardless of the test results, we can say that the T-14 is the most technologically advanced tank. It has an uninhabited tower, a state-of-the-art active defense system, as well as equipment that allows to fully implement the now popular principle of "network-centric warfare".

The downside can be considered the technical complexity and high cost of the complex, which, however, is more or less typical for any modern tank.

We will remind, recently it became known that Germany signed a contract for a new version of the Leopard 2, equipped with a complex of active protection (KAZ) Trophy. And last year, the US Army for the first time received production tanks M1A2 SEP V3 Abrams, also equipped with KAZ. It is also worth saying that in the future, the Americans want to get a new light tank, and France and Germany are planning to replace their MBTs with a new generation tank.

Before the introduction of the Sikorsky UH-60 "Black Hawk" utility helicopter, other helicopters really could not fly to the plateau. Even if they barely fly up, the power of the helicopter will be greatly reduced, increasing the risk of flying the helicopter. It's not a joke, maybe there will be a plane crash or a flying accident.

On May 12, 2008, a major earthquake occurred in Wenchuan, Sichuan. Helicopters such as Zhi-8 were still unable to perform airborne disaster relief missions. In the end, they could only dispatch the UH-60 “black” introduced by an Army Aviation Brigade of the Chengdu Military Region in the 1980s. "Eagle" helicopter to perform the mission.

For general helicopters, when flying on a plateau of 3,500 meters, due to the thin air, the engine power will drop by more than 35% than the sea level. The turboshaft engine compressor is relatively small, and when it is active in high altitude areas for a long time, It is very unfavorable to the engine, and the performance loss is much larger than that of the turbofan engine.

When a helicopter takes off, the main rotor generates lift, which needs to push a considerable mass of air to produce downward motion; once the altitude rises, the air density becomes smaller and the required speed is higher. In the case of reduced engine efficiency, it will not only fly The speed reduction will seriously affect the pilot's control performance in severe cases, and uncontrollable accidents are prone to occur.

On the basis of the UH-60 "Black Hawk" helicopter, aeronautical scientists and technicians have worked hard for more than 30 years, and finally learned the UH-60 "Black Hawk" technology. On this basis, the localized Zhi-20 helicopter was successfully developed. The use of a new turboshaft-10 engine, its maximum output power is reported to have reached 1600KW, so that Zhi-20 has the ability to fly to the plateau.

The turboshaft-10 engine has surpassed the turboshaft-9 of the Z-10 gunship in terms of technical level, material level, and craftsmanship, and the latest T700-GE-701D engine adopted by the UH-60 "Black Hawk" helicopter. It is similar, but the power is about 100KW larger, which is a very remarkable achievement for Chinese aviation people.

Previously, this 10-ton Z-20 helicopter carried out a very harsh demonstration flight on the plateau. Under high-altitude weather conditions, it was proved to be able to carry at least 5 tons of materials, surpassing the meter introduced from Russia. The 17V5 has a capacity of about 3 tons.

Now, Zhi-20 has begun to gradually equip the army aviation units stationed in the plateau areas, which has strongly supported our military operations in the plateau areas and guaranteed the logistics supply of military stations and checkpoints with inconvenient road traffic.

The supply of materials to combat units in these remote areas has always caused the military to feel very headaches. The poor logistics support has seriously affected the life support of combat units. When the mountains are blocked by heavy snow in winter, border defense patrols in high-altitude areas above 4000 meters in the western border areas. For combat and other units, logistical support has to rely on people in the rear on horseback, etc. The conditions are very difficult and difficult.

With the Zhi-20, for the 5,000-meter high altitude zone, where conditions are very difficult, border soldiers can sit in the Zhi-20 helicopter to perform border patrol tasks. This not only improves efficiency, but also makes people safer.

The Zhi-20 helicopters are now gradually being able to fly onto the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in an established area, which will greatly improve the capabilities of our army aviation forces in the plateau areas, including transportation, search, and rescue.

MOSCOW, February 25 - RIA Novosti, Nikolay Protopopov. Promising weapon systems, quietness and high stealth - the first serial diesel-electric submarines of Project 677 "Lada" will be received by the fleet in 2022. It took over 20 years to develop. This chaos can carry precision weapons, and it is extremely difficult to trace its route. About the features of the project - in the material RIA Novosti.

"Difficult child"

The submarines "Kronstadt" and "Velikie Luki" were planned to be handed over to seamen in 2021, however, as explained by the general director of the shipbuilding enterprise "Admiralty Shipyards" Alexander Buzakov, due to problems with counterparties, the deadlines were shifted to the right.

In September, the head of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, Alexei Rakhmanov, announced that two serial ships would be completed with a delay, as one of the equipment suppliers was out of schedule.

Delays have plagued the project from the start. Work started back in the late 1990s - the lead ship Saint Petersburg was laid down. It was launched in 2004 and was supposed to be sent to the Navy in 2006. However, the Northern Fleet accepted the submarine for trial operation only in 2010.

"Ladami" were going to replace the outdated "diesels" of Project 877 "Halibut". The new submarines are smaller, which means they are less visible to sonars. Acoustic stealth is also enhanced by a single-hull design, which is non-standard for domestic shipbuilding. In addition, the Lada are the first Russian submarines to be equipped with an air-independent (anaerobic) power plant in the future.

Perhaps the deadlines were constantly being thwarted precisely because of the many new design solutions and the complexity of their implementation "in hardware". So, during the tests of the lead ship, serious problems were revealed with the hydroacoustic complex, and the insufficient power of the propeller electric motor did not allow the required speed to be developed under water.

But the Navy still expected new diesel-electric submarines, so instead of the Lad, they ordered six time-tested and well-mastered Project 636 Varshavyanka submarines for the Pacific Fleet.

Dangerous "babies"

According to experts, the Lada are the most modern and promising domestic non-nuclear submarines.

Despite their modest size, they are highly versatile. They are able to resist submarines and surface ships, strike at coastal targets, lay minefields, protect the coast from landing troops, transport subunits or special cargo.

The main advantages are high automation and low noise, mobility and maneuverability, which makes it possible to effectively use them in sabotage and reconnaissance operations. Equipped with a powerful sonar system and three sensitive antennas at once: one in the bow, two on the sides.

The speed of the submarine ship with a displacement of about 1.8 thousand tons reaches 20 knots. The depth is up to 350 meters. At the same time, the number of the crew is only 30 people.

As for the armament, the "Ladas" in standard equipment carry 18 torpedoes with a caliber of 533 mm and about 20 min. Torpedo tubes are also adapted for firing high-speed anti-submarine torpedo missiles "Shkval", accelerating up to 300 kilometers per hour. And of course, Lada, like many modern Russian ships, have Caliber cruise missiles.

The first two serial submarines are being built without an air-independent power plant, since, according to Buzakov, such a one has not yet been created in Russia. But the rest of the family's ships will get it.

Invisible Guardians

"Lada" is a completely new class of submarines based on previous projects, the chairman of the All-Russian Fleet Support Movement, Captain First Rank Mikhail Nenashev, explains to RIA Novosti. - Over the past 15-20 years, about 150 experimental design works have been mastered at Lada. Not a single project has had that much. It is, in fact, a large underwater laboratory. "

As the expert emphasized, in comparison with previous projects, "Lada" take on board more torpedoes. Thanks to their unique tactical and technical characteristics, they are able to solve problems in all tactical and strategic directions. In addition, the design allows the placement of missile systems.

"The noise of these diesel-electric submarines is comparable to the noise of the sea, and the new hydroacoustics listens to much more space than other ships," says Nenashev. "This is very important, since the Lada will be based in the Arctic. Another plus is the modest size that allows the use of submarines. both in shallow water and at great depths. Nuclear-powered submarines of a potential enemy will not deploy everywhere, but it is very successful to defend territory on such submarines as Lada. "

Russian diesel submarines have long been recognized as the best in their class. Six diesel-electric submarines of project 636.3 serve in the Black Sea Fleet, six more will be transferred to the Pacific in the coming years - two submarines are preparing to move to a permanent duty station. For their quietness and secrecy in NATO, they were called "black holes."

But the Lada is even quieter. Tests of the head "St. Petersburg" showed that the 677th project is an order of magnitude superior to all previous series of "diesel engines" in terms of secrecy.

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Boeing announced Tuesday that the first U.S. portion of the T-7A Red Hawk advanced trainer has officially entered the company's production line.

The training jet, designated the eT-7A Red Hawk by the U.S. Air Force because of its digital heritage, was fully designed using 3D model-based definition and data management systems developed at Boeing during the last two decades, the announcement said.

The T-7A Red Hawk employed the digital engineering and design of the Boeing T-X aircraft that went from firm concept to first flight in 36 months.

"By creating aircraft and systems along a digital thread, we can accelerate build times and increase quality and affordability for our customers in a way that has never been done before," said Shelley Lavender, Boeing senior vice president of Strike, Surveillance and Mobility.

In September 2018, the U.S. Air Force awarded Boeing a 9.2 billion U.S. dollars contract to supply 351 advanced trainer aircraft and 46 associated ground-based training simulators. Saab is teamed with Boeing on the trainer and provides the aft fuselage of the jet, according to the announcement. Enditem

F-35 Expenditures, Fire Testing Problems as Full-rate Production Decision Nears

F-35 Expenditures, Fire Testing Problems as Full-rate Production Decision Nears | Walltrace International

Feb. 24 – Washington’s patience with the problematic F-35 fighter plane is expiring, Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., said this week, as a decision on its maximum rate of development approaches. In the past 20 years, the F-35 program, designing what is known to be the most advanced fighter plane in the world, has cost almost $1.8 trillion in production costs.Only about 500 were made, even though the Pentagon intended to buy thousands to replace aging fighter planes such as the F-16.

Reed, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, told Bloomberg earlier this week, “We’ve been designing it and it’s still in operational testing and evaluation, and once that’s done, and we hope it’s finished promptly, then we can make a far more detailed assessment of the framework.”We hope that the response to the efficacy of the F-35 and the reason for its billing as the world’s premier fighter aircraft will be delivered soon,” Reed said.”

According to officials and different government reports, maintenance has been hampered by logistics and parts supply issues. The program involves three versions of the aircraft, and, according to a study released this week, a long-promised, fully operational Joint Simulation Environment Facility to evaluate different aspects of the aircraft’s architecture and equipment in simulated combat conditions has not been provided to the U.S. Navy.

Since program officials were slow to contract and build the required equipment, only recently did the Pentagon begin tests, still incomplete, to find out whether theF-35 could launch bombs and missiles if its GPS signals were interrupted by an adversary. We hope that the response to the efficacy of the F-35 and the reason for its billing as the world’s premier fighter aircraft will be delivered soon,” Reed said.”

According to officials and different government reports, maintenance has been hampered by logistics and parts supply issues.Eager to see a combination of state-of-the-art and less costly fighter planes in the U.S. military fleet, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Charles Brown Jr. compared the F-35 to a Ferrari last week.Brown said, “You don’t drive your Ferrari to work every day, you drive it only on Sundays.” “This is our ‘high end’ [the F-35].

We want to make sure that we don’t need any of this for low-end fighting. I want to moderate the degree to which we use these aircraft.”The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab, the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute and the Georgia Tech Research Institute are scheduled to provide an independent technical evaluation of the elements required to start combat testing in an effective simulator by Feb. 28.

Reed noted that Congress usually considers the initial price tag of a military operation, without contemplating the long-term viability of the program. “I think the F-35 would push us to be much more mindful of sustainability,” Reed said, “on how to lower those costs, on how to look at those structures in terms of their life cycles, not just how much it costs to build them.”

State tests of 30-mm shells with remote detonation for Terminator tank support combat vehicles will begin in April 2021. The new ammunition is being developed by the Pribor Scientific and Production Association of the Tekhmash concern.

“The shells for the“ Terminator ”are going to state tests, in fact, we are starting them according to the directive from April 1 this year. I think that by the end of next year, ammunition with remote detonation will be ready, we put about eight to nine months for testing, then formal paperwork will follow, "- RIA Novosti reports the words of the general director of the enterprise Yuri Nabokov. As the agency notes, the timing of the tests of the new generation projectiles was shifted to the right - earlier the company's management announced their readiness by the end of 2020.

The "Terminator" tank support combat vehicle (BMPT) was adopted by the Ground Forces in 2018. The combat module BMPT consists of a twin installation of 30-mm 2A42 cannons, four 9M120-1 "Attack" anti-tank guided missiles with a laser beam guidance system, two AGS-17 grenade launchers and a 7.62-mm modernized Kalashnikov tank machine gun. The vehicle is designed to support armored vehicles in battles in cramped conditions, in particular, in the city. In 2013, Uralvagonzavod held a public presentation of the BMPT during the RAE-2013 arms exhibition in Nizhny Tagil.

The equipment and armament of the BMPT allows you to quickly identify the main threats, primarily - camouflaged infantry with anti-tank weapons, and quickly hit targets. 30-mm high-explosive fragmentation projectiles with programmable remote detonation can dramatically increase the effectiveness of the vehicle's weapon, allowing it to hit the enemy who has taken refuge with high accuracy. The development of BMPT began in the 1990s. The first contract for the supply of BMPTs to the Russian army was signed in August 2017, at the same time it was reported that vehicles of this type had been tested in combat conditions in Syria. The first batch of 10 BMPTs was transferred to the army in 2017-18 for experimental military operation. Vehicles of this type can either be rebuilt or produced by upgrading the T-72 tanks being removed from service by replacing the turret with a combat module. Besides Russia,

Earlier, "Profile" also announced the beginning of the development of a new generation BMPT on the Armata platform. The vehicle was named "Ilya Muromets", it is supposed to be equipped with a combat module with a 57-mm cannon.

Pentagon Urges Turkey Against Delivery of Russian Missiles

vitalykuzmin.net

Selcan Hacaoglu, Bloomberg News

(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. urged Turkey not to go ahead with the delivery of Russian S-400 missiles and jettison the battery it already acquired, as Ankara engages in talks with Moscow over the delivery of a second system.

Turkey and Russia have been negotiating over technology transfers and local production ahead of a potential purchase of a second system. Turkey acquired the first battery from Russia in 2019 after dropping talks over a comparable U.S. Patriot system because Washington refused to share technology.

Understanding the Feuds Plaguing U.S.-Turkey Alliance: QuickTake

The U.S. recently imposed sanctions on Turkey’s defense industry over the missile purchase, saying the Russian system could be used to gather intelligence on Lockheed Martin Corp.’s F-35 stealth fighter. It previously suspended Turkish defense contractors from the international program to help build the F-35.

“Again, we urge Turkey not to move ahead with the delivery of the S-400,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said. “We believe it’s incompatible with the F-35, and Turkey remains suspended from that program. Again, we urge them not to retain it.”

Turkey remains adamant about keeping Russian missiles, which reflects its desire for an increasingly independent role in regional policies and for economic ties with Russia.

Indonesia to arm up with Rafale, F-15 fighter jets - Asia Times

By JOHN MCBETH
FEBRUARY 21, 2021

Indonesia is set to take delivery of the France-made Rafale fighter. Credit: AINonline.

JAKARTA – After a series of pandemic-defying trips across the world, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto appears to have settled on the French-made Rafale and an under-strength squadron of American F-15EX jet fighters to bolster Indonesia’s front-line air defenses, with deliveries expected over the next three years.

Along with the 36 Dassault Rafales and eight Boeing F-15s, the wish list also extends to three Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft, three Airbus A330 tankers for aerial refuelling, six MQ-1 Predator drones and Italy’s Leonardo early-warning radar system.

It could be Jakarta’s biggest-ever defense purchase if it goes through in its current form, but serious questions remain over whether debt-burdened Indonesia can afford the estimated $11 billion it will cost for the aircraft alone and the early availability of the F-15 variant, only two of which have been built so far.

Indonesia’s defense budget for 2021 stands at US$9.2 billion, an increase over the 2020 allocation that started out at $9.3 billion and dropped to $8.7 billion because of fiscal pressure from the pandemic. The 2021 spending includes $3 billion for military modernization.

Widodo’s first-term government had hoped to increase the defense budget to $20 billion by 2019, or 1.5% of gross domestic product (GDP), but that was predicated on 7% growth, not the average 5% the country has achieved over the last five years as it struggled to attract foreign investment.....read rest of article
