The US Air Force’s Moody Air Force Base (AFB) has received the first two HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopters.
Delivery of the helicopters was taken by 23rd Wing and 347th Rescue Group leadership.
It marks the transition from the previous HH-60G Pave Hawk model, which has been operational for over 26 years.
The aircraft were flown from Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky Training Academy by an aircrew from the 41st Rescue Squadron, 413th Flight Test Squadron and 88th Test and Evaluation Squadron.
In February, the USAF revealed the name of its HH-60W helicopter at the 2020 Air Force Association’s Air Warfare Symposium in Orlando, Florida, US.
The helicopter features a wide range of capabilities that will ensure the crew can carry out the search and rescue and personnel recovery operations in adverse environments.
Jolly Green II is equipped with advanced and enhanced defensive systems, vulnerability reduction, hover performance, electrical capacity, avionics, cooling, weapons, cyber-security, environmental and net-centric requirements.
It will be used to carry out missions in the day or night in hostile environments to bring back personnel left behind.
Additionally, it will be used to conduct other military operations such as civil search and rescue, medical evacuation, disaster response, humanitarian assistance, security cooperation / aviation advisory, Nasa space-flight support, and rescue command and control.
Sikorsky also won a contract worth more than $500m from the USAF to build 12 additional HH-60W Combat Rescue Helicopters (CRH)
