CANTAS E (endurance) VTOL UAV

CANTAS E (endurance)

Typical Mission: Agriculture, Industry, Patrol, Surveillance, Reconnaissance

The CANTAS E is designed with the purpose of reaching the best endurance characteristics. This member of the CANTAS family is equipped with two electric motors in a combination with an internal combustion engine. Such combination allows our UAS to fly 18 hours in an economy mode while a high power engine mode provides the ability of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL). Thanks to an innovative on-board software, CANTAS is able to execute a fully autonomous flight or it can be manually controlled through a ground control station. With the maximum payload weight of 10 kg (22 lbs), various types of sensor systems and associated recording devices can be installed. To achieve the best results, it is necessary to determine the main purpose of CANTAS in regard on mission requirements.

TYPICAL MILITARY MISSIONS

Both the unique flight characteristics of CANTAS E and the right combination of an additional payload make our UAV ideal for borders patrolling, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. For example, equipping with high-definition day and night cameras allows to monitor vast areas of borderland and track people and vehicles from 500 to 3 000 m (1 640 ft – 9 840 ft) above the ground. A laser rangefinder helps to determine the distance of the objects and a laser pointer can illuminate a point of interest.

TYPICAL CIVILIAN MISSIONS

Both the autonomous flight mode and the advanced software features (mission planning, on-line re-planning and virtual fence) allow to execute a whole task without a constant supervision of an operator. Thanks to 18 h flight endurance capability, CANTAS E can continuously monitor vast areas, such as fields and forests. CANTAS E can serve as a monitoring tool in various sectors, in particular:

Industry – e.g. pipelines and power lines monitoring
Agriculture – e.g. livestock, water levels or crops monitoring

MILITARY / LAW ENFORCEMENT APPLICATIONS

RECONNAISSANCE, SURVEILLANCE

Image: newspacetechnologies.cz

CANTAS types A, E can be ideal for observing tangible structures, particular areas and movements of enemy forces. Objects can be monitored from the maximum height of 3.000 m (9,800 ft) above ground. While observing, CANTAS can simultaneously provide additional information such as weather conditions or terrain maps. Operator can decide whether CANTAS executes a mission autonomously following a predefined path or it is manually controlled. Switching between these two modes during a flight is possible.
Thanks to the 18 h endurance, long-range or long-time missions, such as border patrolling, can be easily accomplished by CANTAS E. Ground control station receives video data as well as telemetry in real time.

APPROPRIATE FEATURES FOR THESE KINDS OF MISSIONS:

– Data link communication between GCS and UAV supporting both the telemetry and the data transfer
– EO Imager – video stream in HD/lower quality, man/vehicle identification, recognition, and detection, target tracking
– IR sensor for night or low-visibility operations
– Monitoring systems (such as special cameras or sensors for radiation, chemical, and explosive detection)

CIVILIAN APPLICATIONS

CARGO TRANSPORT

CANTAS can carry a payload of 10 kg (22 lbs) and together with a vertical take-off and landing capability, it makes our UAV ideal for transport missions. CANTAS can take-off from any place and quickly and easily reach any landing area. A payload is placed in a capsule which can be optionally adjusted according to your requirements (e.g. cooling box installation). A capability of a fully automatic operational mode and a mission planning feature provide efficient and timely delivery.

CANTAS A is better for short-range flights and/or when the fast transport service is needed.
CANTAS E is better for long-range flights and/or when there is no need for a quick delivery.

APPROPRIATE FEATURES FOR THESE KINDS OF MISSIONS:

– Data link communication between GCS and UAV supporting both the telemetry and the data transfer
– Transport box (regular or with specific features – it might be coolbox, thermoregulated box, etc.)

AGRICULTURE

Thanks to 18 h endurance, long-range or long-time missions can be easily accomplished by CANTAS E. Autonomous flight mode, mission planning, on-line re-planning, and virtual fence features ensure that CANTAS can execute whole flight without a constant supervision of an operator. Data link range of more than 100 km within a line of sight allows CANTAS to operate also in remote vast areas.

THE POTENTIAL OPTIONS OF THE USE OF CANTAS IN AGRICULTURE INCLUDE:

– Livestock monitoring
– Landscape monitoring – e.g. fields, forests
– Crop health monitoring
– Water levels monitoring
– Anti-poaching

APPROPRIATE FEATURES FOR THESE KINDS OF MISSIONS:

– Data link communication between GCS and UAV supporting both the telemetry and the data transfer
– EO Imager for video stream in HD/lower quality, object identification, recognition, and detection, target tracking
– IR sensor for night or low-visibility operations

INDUSTRY

Thanks to 18 h endurance, long-range or long-time missions can be easily accomplished by CANTAS E. Autonomous flight mode, mission planning, on-line re-planning, and virtual fence features ensure that CANTAS can execute whole flight without a permanent supervision of an operator. Data link range of more than 100 km within a line of sight allows CANTAS to operate also on remote and vast areas. CANTAS A can quickly respond to any emergency situation in remote areas, while CANTAS E can effectively perform a continuous monitoring for up to 18 hours.

OPTIONS OF THE USE OF CANTAS IN INDUSTRY INCLUDE:

SEARCH AND RESCUE

Image: newspacetechnologies.cz

CANTAS can serve as a valuable assistant in search and rescue missions. With high resolution video cameras for surveying, CANTAS can find a missing person and send the exact location to ground control station. Infrared cameras can locate people or animals even in a thick smoke and pinpoint the source of fire. With an image comparison tool it can also provide assessment of damages caused by natural disasters.

CANTAS A can quickly respond to any emergency situation in remote areas, while CANTAS E can effectively perform a continuous searching for as long as 18 hours.

APPROPRIATE FEATURES FOR THESE KINDS OF MISSIONS:

– Data link communication between GCS and UAV supporting both the telemetry and the data transfer
– EO Imager for video stream in HD quality, object identification, recognition, and detection, target tracking

SECURED DATA LINK SYSTEM

Image: newspacetechnologies.cz

Our data link was evolved with the future in mind. Its robust system is essential for both the secured information flow and the reliable UAV remote controlling. An important characteristic of the data link communication system is its technical feasibility to any UAV.
Telemetry and video data transfer between UAV and ground station is ensured through our innovative data link communication system with a range up to 100 km. The information flow is secured through both the telemetry channel and the data communication channel. The telemetry channel (up to 1 GHz, but typically

(430 – 470 MHz) is designed for a bidirectional data flow while the video data communication channel (up to 7 GHz, typically 2.2-2.4 GHz) ensures only one-way data transfer (Air » Ground). At customer’s request, a bandwidth configuration is available. The Advanced Encryption Standard crypt is used for secured data transfer between UAV and GCS. As an AES key size 256 bit is applied, no-one can reach your important data unless you allow it.
Thanks to 100 km (62 mi.) range of communication, you can receive combined data and control your UAV and its payload even in remote areas. Signal receiving is possible from any direction thanks to an antenna system 360° coverage in azimuth.
