Tests of a new small-sized hypersonic missile "Ostrota" for bombers should begin in 2022. This was reported on Thursday, May 20, by Izvestia, citing sources in the defense department.

It is specified that aircraft armed with such missiles will be able to strike at the most protected targets and will become part of the non-nuclear deterrent forces.

According to sources, the missile will also be used by long-range bombers Tu-22M3 and operational-tactical Su-34. In addition, a special jet engine was created for Ostrota.

“Hypersonic missiles for modern air defense systems are almost invulnerable targets, they are very difficult, almost impossible to shoot down. Accordingly, if such an effective weapon is created for one type of aviation, then it is logical to use it on long-range aviation aircraft. Using this ammunition, they will be able to clear their way, destroying air defense systems, making breakthroughs in the interests of strategic operations, ”said military expert Dmitry Kornev.

It is noted that Russia became the first country in the world to have hypersonic missiles among its armaments. In particular, MiG-31K interceptors with the Kinzhal complex and the Avangard silo intercontinental missile systems with a nuclear warhead have been on duty for more than three years now.
