Izvestia: additional squadrons of Su-34 bombers will appear in the air regiments

The Russian Ministry of Defense has decided to form new units on the Su-34 fighter-bombers. New squadrons with modernized Su-34 NVOs will appear in the air regiments. This was reported by Izvestia with reference to sources in the defense department.
Bomber regiments will receive a third squadron with Su-34 NVO fighter-bombers. The upgraded aircraft received new suspended reconnaissance containers. Su-34 NVO can use an optical-electronic, radio-technical and radar container. The new equipment increases the detection range of ground, sea and air targets.
Former commander of the 4th Army of the Air Force (Air Force) and Air Defense (Air Defense), Hero of Russia Valery Gorbenko noted that the additional squadron will expand the capabilities of the air regiments. “With the appearance of the third squadron, the air regiments will again become independent tactical units,” he said.
In October, it became known about the redeployment of the air regiment to the Su-34. The 47th Bomber Aviation Regiment will be transferred to Voronezh. During the reconstruction of the Voronezh airfield, the regiment was based in Buturlinovka .
In April, it was reported about the development of new universal reconnaissance containers (UKR) for the Su-34.
