Petersburg shipyard "Admiralteiskie Verfi" has started sea trials of the diesel-electric submarine "Kronstadt" - the first serial ship of the project 677 "Lada". These ships are distinguished by anti-sonar coating of the hull and other technical solutions, which significantly reduce their noise. According to the United Shipbuilding Corporation, their first stage should be completed by the end of December.

Lada submarines have been developed since the eighties. Several times the project was suspended due to lack of funding and difficulties during the testing of ships. So far, two submarines have been built on it. The lead "Saint Petersburg" fully entered the fleet this September, and the first serial "Kronstadt" was launched in 2018.

The Kronstadt was laid down back in 2005, but the construction of the ship was delayed due to difficulties in testing the St. Petersburg. For example, the power plant of the lead ship did not meet the requirements of the military, and they even wanted to completely close Project 677. But the Rubin design bureau and the Admiralty Shipyards managed to eliminate all the shortcomings.

Like other submarines of the project, the displacement of the Kronstadt is 1.8 thousand tons with a length of 66.8 meters and a width of 7.1 meters. The ship develops a speed of up to 21 knots under water. Its working immersion depth is 300 meters. Of the armament, the submarine has six torpedo tubes of 533 mm caliber with ammunition for 18 torpedoes.

"Kronstadt" received an anti-hydrolocation coating of the hull and a multi-mode main propeller motor on permanent magnets, which works quieter than traditional asynchronous electric motors. And all the equipment that creates vibrations is on vibration mountings. All this made it possible to reduce the noise level of Kronstadt and other ships of Project 677.

"Admiralty Shipyards" began factory sea trials of "Kronstadt" on December 17. Their first stage will take place in the Gulf of Finland. Experts will check the submarine's hydroacoustic complex, its navigation and communication systems, and will test the lifting and mast devices. They will also conduct speed and maneuver tests of the ship. The first stage of sea trials should be completed by the end of December.

The ships of the Lada project belong to the fourth generation of non-nuclear submarines. A fifth-generation non-nuclear submarine is also being developed in Russia. She received the name "Kalina" .
