The Braunschweig, a corvette of the German navy is making a stopover in Rīga this weekend, reports LSM's Russian language service.

The ship is participating in the "Baltic Guard" training drills in the Baltic Sea.

“Life on a ship is exciting, it's a way of life. Crew members see life on the ship not as work, but as life. (…) We can be at sea for 7 days without resupply. Fully supplied, up to 14 and even up to 20 days. We spend up to 170 days aboard during the year. This is the ordinary life of a sailor. (...) There are 65 sailors on board, this is the maximum. We have 7 women, including 2 commanding officers, ” said Thomas Seifert, Lieutenant Commander of the Braunschweig.

“We are very pleased that today and tomorrow you have the opportunity to see the Braunschweig, one of the most modern ships in the German Navy. (...) In general, the German fleet has significantly intensified its activities since February 24 in the Baltic Sea. (…) This is a common mission, within the framework of working with NATO partners,” said German Ambassador to Latvia Christian Heldt.
