“The first mass-produced machine is scheduled to take off this year,” said Aera Vodochody PR Manager Lukáš Hora.
The process of obtaining type certification took five years. “The newly obtained unrestricted type certification for the L-39NG confirms that this state-of-the-art machine outperforms its predecessor. All of us at Aero believe that the L-39NG will be even more successful in the future. This is positive news not only for Aero, but for the entire Czech aviation industry, which is intensively involved in the production and development of the L-39NG,” said Director of Aero Vodochody Viktor Sotona.
The certificate is proof that the aircraft meets modern requirements, complies with valid aviation regulations and standards and is safe for standard flight operations. It was issued by the Department of Military Aviation Supervision of the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic and is valid for the entire period of production of the given type of aircraft.
Aero, whose majority owner is the Hungarian company SI 13 Aero Zrt, previously announced that it would deliver 12 L-39NG aircraft to Hungary. The minority owner is the Czech company Omnipol. In total, it now has contracts for the production and delivery of approximately 30 new L-39NG aircraft. “Thanks to the already concluded contracts, we have practically full production capacity until 2025, and the interest in our training aircraft is increasing. We are in advanced negotiations about the delivery of the L-39NG to several customers in Europe, Africa and Asia,” added Filip Kulštrunk, Aera’s vice president for sales and marketing.
According to him, further negotiations on deliveries of the Czech Aero aircraft began at the recent air show in Farnborough, UK. “Compared to competition from Italy, South Korea or the USA, this is a very affordable and, above all, long-term reliable solution for modern air forces. In addition, the completely new design allows for continuous modernization according to the wishes of customers, mainly at the level of communication and avionics systems,” added Kulštrunk.
According to the aircraft’s chief designer Jaromír Lang, the machine stands out due to its low operating costs and excellent range for its class. Its advantages include, for example, the use of modern technologies, a reliable engine, an excellent view from the cabin, and a high level of protection for pilots in the event of an emergency landing or an airplane crash.
