An Asian military has ordered an undisclosed but significant number of RADA Electronic’s Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radar (MHR) based RPS-42 aerial surveillance radar systems. Delivery of the systems is expected to be completed by mid-2017, and the company stated that the sale will generate significant income for profits in both 2016 and 2017. The customer selected the system after a thorough and competitive evaluation process in comparison to various other competing radar systems.

RPS-42 Radar System for Tactical Air Surveillance

The RPS-42 Tactical Air Surveillance Radar System is the ultimate volume surveillance radar for today’s and future Very-Short-Range Air Defense (VSHORAD) solutions. It is optimized to detect, classify and track all types of aerial objects, at altitudes from 30ft to 30,000ft within a radius of up to 30km – with emphasis on all types of UAVs, from micro and mini (groups 1-3) to the medium and large (groups 4-5). Other aerial objects are .fighters, helicopters, transport aircraft, and others ,

The RPS-42 is a member of RADA’s Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radar (MHR) family enabling advanced force and border protection solutions. Key characteristics of the MHR :technology
  • Pulse Doppler, Software-Defined Radars
  • AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) Antenna
  • Extremely High Elevation Coverage • Non-Rotating, Solid State Radars
  • Digital: Beam Forming, Receivers, Pulse Compression
  • Compact and Mobile, for Tactical Applications
  • High Reliability
  • Superior Performance-to-Price Ratio

Hemisphere coverage can be achieved by the simultaneous operation of four identical and .interchangeable radars, each covering 90° in Azimuth and 80° in Elevation :

The RPS-42 exceptional real-time configurability provides a wide range of capabilities

  • Real-time control of scanning modes
  • Spotlight” examination of specific tracks while scanning is continued”
  • Operator-control or remote-control of radar operation modes
  • Management of hundreds of simultaneous tracks

The RPS-42 Radar System can be integrated with any C4I system and other radars sensors using its standard Ethernet interfaces, and can operate stand-alone or as part of .a large-scale surveillance system. It can be mobile or positioned at stationary sites.

South Korea shows interest to purchase Israeli RPS-42 tactical air surveillance radar

Wednesday, April 9, 2014 10:58 AM

South Korea is pushing to buy about 10 low-altitude radars from Israel to better detect small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and thereby counter threats posed by North Korean drones, military officials said Wednesday. The military has been hastily preparing measures to step up its surveillance capability, in the wake of the discovery of three small UAVs near the tensely guarded border with North Korea in recent weeks.

Asian Air Defense Chooses RADA Counter-UAV Radar

RADA Electronic Industries Ltd. has announced its selection by an Asian military force of its Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radar (MHR) based RPS-42 aerial surveillance radar systems. RADA’s systems will provide the customer’s Air Defense with highly advanced aerial surveillance capabilities, enabling the detection of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV).
The order is of a significant size to RADA and strategically important. The order is expected to be received during the third quarter of 2016 and delivered by mid-2017. The order is expected to contribute a few million dollars to RADA’s revenues in both 2016 and 2017.
The customer has selected RADA’s RPS-42 radar systems after a very thorough and competitive evaluation process in comparison to various other competing radar systems.
The MHR radar platform, which is the heart of the system, is an S-Band, Software-Defined, Pulse-Doppler, Active Electronically Scanned Array radar. It introduces sophisticated beam forming capabilities and advanced signal processing. It can provide multiple missions on each radar platform, and offers an unprecedented performance-to-price ratio. It is a compact and mobile system, delivering ideal organic, tactical surveillance solutions for force and border protection applications such as counter rockets and mortars, counter unmanned aerial systems, ground moving target indicator, air surveillance, and more.

Commented Zvi Alon, RADA’s CEO,
This selection by a primary customer, is a major milestone achievement for RADA. It is significant to us not only because of the size of the expected order, but also due to its strategic value. It should open up for RADA many more global opportunities for such systems, in a world where small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, also known as Drones, are becoming ever more prevalent. This order in particular proves that our radar performance in aerial surveillance applications is superior to the competition, providing a market-leading performance-to-price ratio. We are proud to have been selected by this customer for such a significant and important program, and can realize how this win will lead to further opportunities for us, both with the same customer and in other countries.
