Analysis: US Marine Corps could reduce F-35 purchase by 100-200 aircraft | Jane's 360

An expert believes the US Marine Corps (USMC) could reduce its Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) procurement by 100-200 aircraft to focus more on ship-borne aircraft and reduce its quantity of ground-based aircraft.
Bryan Clark, senior fellow at the Hudson Institute think tank in Washington, DC, told Jane’s on 1 April that the USMC is considering this because it would have more F-35s than it needs if it executes force structure changes proposed in a 23 March report. Clark said the USMC is considering increasing the F-35 capacity on its America-class amphibious assault ships (LHAs) and Wasp-class amphibious assault ships (LHDs) from six to as many as 20 aircraft.
