The Russian military is proposing in the future to equip T-14 "Armata" tanks with a new uninhabited turret with a 152 mm cannon. Modernization of the combat vehicle will be required at the turn of the 2030s, when potential opponents will create new generation tanks.

This is reported by TASS with reference to the materials of the 38th Scientific Research Testing Institute of Armored Weapons and Military Equipment (NII BTVT).

The turret with a 152 mm cannon (now 125 mm) will not be the only innovation. Armata's armament will be replenished with hypersonic armor-piercing projectiles, volumetric explosion ammunition, as well as guided missiles operating on the principle of “fire - forget - fire again”.

It is supposed to strengthen the protection of the tank using a system of remote neutralization of homing anti-tank weapons, a system of automatic detection and destruction of targets. Also, "Armata" will be improved by installing a laser anti-guided anti-tank guided missile system and a remote neutralization system for anti-tank mines.

The military expects that after improving ergonomics, the crew will be able to conduct active operations inside the tank for 24 hours. They want to increase his situational awareness due to an advanced decision support system with an automatic target identification system at a distance of over 6 km.

Earlier NEWS.ru reported that the specialists of the Russian Ministry of Defense have developed the concept of a two-link "tank of the future", which should replace the "Armata". The project was presented by NII BTVT within the framework of the Army-2020 forum. The institute believes that the Armata tank and its versions will remain effective in combat until the 2040s. The "Armata" should be replaced by a combat vehicle with a two-link articulated structure.
