The unmanned version of the Checkmate light tactical aircraft (LTS) will provide an opportunity to implement new tactical techniques. Features of the stand-alone version of Checkmate General Director of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) Yuri Slyusar revealed to TASS .
He emphasized that Checkmate was originally created as the basis for a family of aircraft complexes. The aircraft will become a platform for unmanned and optionally piloted modifications.
“Unmanned modification is not just a tribute to fashion. Already at an early stage of the project, we lay in it ample opportunities for use in network-centric military operations. The aircraft will be able to exchange information and direct other aviation complexes and unmanned aerial vehicles to targets. The use of unmanned versions of the vehicle will allow, among other things, to implement new tactics, ”Slyusar said.
LTS was presented at the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2021 in July. The aircraft will receive a radar station with an active phased antenna array, an electronic warfare system, as well as optical and electronic reconnaissance equipment. As the head of "Rostec" Sergey Chemezov noted , the cost of the aircraft will be from 25 to 35 million dollars.
At the presentation of the aircraft in July, Yuri Slyusar spoke about the creation of the Checkmate unmanned modification. According to him, the single-engine fighter could arouse interest in the Russian Aerospace Forces.
