The technical appearance of the Russian single-engine fighter of the fifth generation Checkmate ("Checkmate") has been formed. This was announced in an interview with TASS by the head of the state corporation "Rostec" Sergei Chemezov on the eve of the international exhibition Dubai Airshow 2021.
According to him, the aircraft will receive advanced on-board electronics, radar with an active phased antenna array (AFAR) and an electronic warfare system (EW).
“We are actively working on the project. The technical appearance of the machine as a whole has been formed, cooperation is being built, "he said, adding that the open architecture will allow the machine to be adapted to a specific customer.
On November 9, a prototype of the Russian Checkmate was delivered to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on an An-124 Ruslan transport aircraft. It was reported that the aircraft will be demonstrated abroad for the first time at the Dubai Airshow.
The prototype of the Checkmate light fighter was unveiled at the 2021 International Aviation and Space Salon (MAKS-2021) in July. Chemezov then said that the cost of the plane would be from $ 25 to $ 30 million. According to him, the plane will be able to carry more than seven tons of weapons.
