MOSCOW, April 13 / Radio Sputnik. Ministry of Defense of Russia begins to form calculations for air defense missile systems (SAM), S-500 , "Prometheus", the first samples of which should arrive in the army this year, report "Izvestia".
It is noted that the formed crews will be trained on the first samples of the S-500 as united military teams. After completing the training tasks on the new equipment, the units will be sent to combat units, adds FAN.
According to the head of the anti-aircraft missile forces of the Russian Air Force in 2000-2008, Alexander Gorkov, the most difficult thing in the development of new systems is their integration into a single automated control system.
The S-500 is designed to complement the S-400 complex . It will cover the key administrative and industrial centers of the country from a potential strike from hypersonic missiles.
For this "Prometheus" will use different types of missiles. For example, ultra-long-range ammunition from the S-400 is for destroying targets at a distance of over 400 km, and the 77N6 missiles will hit objects in near space.
In addition, the Yenisei radar has been developed specifically for Prometheus, capable of detecting targets in near space thousands of kilometers away.
The beginning of equipping air defense with serial samples of the S-500 is scheduled for 2025.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported that two more air defense regiments were rearmed on the S-400 last year.
