Izvestia: a hypersonic missile for the Su-57 is being created within the framework of the Larchinka-MD design and development project
Russian designers are working on a hypersonic missile for the fifth generation Su-57 fighter. The product is being created as part of the Larchinka-MD development work. A promising rocket will be able to fly at a speed exceeding the speed of sound five times. This is reported by Izvestia, citing sources in the Russian Ministry of Defense.
According to the publication, in 2019, the second stage of the Larchinka-MD development work began. A promising missile is being developed by the specialists of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation (KTRV). The ammunition will receive the “Product 70” engine, which is being developed by the JSC “Turaevskoye Machine-Building Design Bureau“ Soyuz ”. The ramjet engine is being tested.
Izvestia sources confirmed that Russia is working on a hypersonic missile for the Su-57. Designers conduct ground testing of ammunition systems and analyze flights with mock-ups. It is known that the new missile is planned to be placed in the internal compartments of the aircraft.
Military expert Dmitry Kornev suggested that the new product would replace the existing Kh-31 anti-ship missiles. In his opinion, "Larchinka-MD" is a short-range ammunition.
Earlier it became known about the completion of tests of the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile from the submarine. The commander of the Northern Fleet, Alexander Moiseev, reported to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on the successful completion of the underwater missile launch.
