UEC modernized production of NK-32 engines for Tu-160 aircraft

The UEC-Kuznetsov enterprise has expanded the capacity of test benches for the modernized NK-32 engines, which will increase production volumes and re-engineize the entire operating fleet of Tu-160 strategic missile carriers. This was reported to reporters on Thursday at the press service of the United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec).

As the UEC said, the Samara enterprise "UEC-Kuznetsov" has put into operation a new fuel supply system for test benches of aircraft engines. The work was carried out in stages to ensure a smooth operation of the test station.

"Expanding the throughput of test benches, including through the modernization of the fuel supply system, is one of the priority production tasks. Work is underway to conclude contracts. In the future, the entire existing fleet of relevant aircraft will be remotorized," the press service quoted the managing director as saying. UEC-Kuznetsov "Alexei Sobolev.

The UEC added that in the first year of deliveries alone, more than a dozen of modernized NK-32 engines have already been shipped. Currently, UEC-Kuznetsov is working on the construction and modernization of 22 facilities.

The NK-32 engine is a two-circuit three-shaft turbojet engine with a common afterburner. It is currently used on the Tu-160 strategic missile-carrying bombers, which are designed to destroy the most important targets in remote areas with nuclear and conventional weapons. Tu-160 is the largest supersonic aircraft in the history of military aviation, the heaviest combat aircraft in the world.
