Recall that the double supersonic long-range interceptor MiG-31 made its first flight in 1975. It was the first fourth-generation aircraft in the Soviet Union equipped with a phased array radar. In NATO, the fighter received the designation Foxhound - "Foxhound".
The interceptor's capabilities remain unmatched to this day. In 2011, the aircraft underwent a deep modernization. The combat effectiveness of the MiG-31BM increased by 2.6 times compared to its predecessor. The detection range of air targets has been increased to 320 kilometers, and the detection range - to 280 km. For comparison, the American long-range interceptor F / A-18 Super Hornet has 100 kilometers worse performance. The MiG-31BM is capable of intercepting targets flying at a speed of up to 6,500 kilometers per hour.
It is assumed that the MiG-31 will remain in service until 2028.
