In recent years, the world's military powers have been developing fifth-generation aircraft, and the fifth-generation aircraft has surpassed other fighters with superior technology. Recently, Russia's mass-produced Su-57 fighter planes appeared, also marking the advent of a new generation of fifth-generation fighters. At present, the countries with five generations of aircraft in the world include the F-22 and F-35 fighters of the United States, the Su-57 fighters of Russia and the J-20 fighters of China. At the same time, there is only China in addition to the United States and two fifth-generation machines.
As a representative of my country's fifth-generation aircraft, the J-20 has attracted the attention of military fans since its debut. Afterwards, the J-20 made numerous appearances at the Zhuhai Air Show and military parade, and it has become much loved. Speaking of the J-20 fighter, as my country's advanced fifth-generation aircraft, it is naturally very advanced in performance. Military fans are also concerned about the development of the aircraft. By this year, the J-20 fighter has been unveiled for almost 10 years, and now it has also been in service for a certain number. So, how many J-20s have been in service?
Judging from public information, in 2017, the J-20 fighter was formally installed into the army. Initially, the Chinese Air Force still had a certain number of technical verification aircraft. Of course, there was only one initial production line. The number of fighters produced is also limited. Later, as the J-20 fighters gradually entered service, in 2018 and 2019, two other production lines were opened. There are currently three production lines in the production of J-20 fighters. Specifically, it is the J-20A. According to the convention of weapon model naming, the officially produced fighter is Type A, as is the American F-22 fighter, and the official F-22A fighter is officially produced.
Three production lines are running at full capacity, greatly increasing the number of J-20 fighters. For example, a production line can produce about 12 fighters a year. In the past three years, it is conservatively estimated that the J-20 fighters have produced more than 50 fighters. These 50 new J-20 fighters are already in service. In the official media, the J-20 fighters are constantly appearing in service. At present, many well-known troops have been equipped with the J-20 fighters. In the future, the J-20 fighters will be equipped with new troops.
According to current calculations, plus the J-20 fighters produced before, excluding the J-20 fighters tested and tested, the Chinese Air Force has already equipped more than 60 J-20 fighters. This number will increase further with the production of the J-20 fighter. Compared with the Su-57 fighter, the development speed is much faster. However, compared with the United States, it is still much worse. Not to mention the F-22 equipped with more than 100 aircraft. At present, hundreds of F-35 fighters have been produced, and they are still in rapid production.
J-20 in multi-aircraft formation
With the continuous improvement of technology for our J-20 fighters, the engines of the J-20 fighters currently equipped are still AL-31F engines. Since new engines have not been released before, the speed of equipment is relatively slow due to imported engines. This summer, domestically-made engines have made new progress, and it is ready to be replaced with improved J-20B fighters. The J-20B will use the AS-10B vector engine with greater thrust, which is a qualitative leap for the J-20 fighter. After the new engine is equipped, our engine is no longer restricted, and the new J-20B fighter can be produced quickly. As the technology of the J-20 fighter gradually improves, the speed of production and equipment will also increase. Some time ago, some netizens issued a test flight of the J-20 suspected to be equipped with a cannon, and the new J-20 combat opportunity has been greatly improved.
Improved J-20 in test flight
Therefore, the current number of J-20 fighters in service in my country has reached more than 60. This does not include the J-20 at the test base. There are also 8 prototypes. The current number of J-20 fighters in my country is close to 80. With the gradual maturity of the WS-20B engine technology, the number of J-20 fighters will increase rapidly; after a while, the number of new WS-15 engines will be released, and the number of new J-20s will further increase.
