Germany intends to buy F-35 stealth military jets — reports | News | DW | 14.03.2022

Germany is reportedly planning to equip its air force with US-built F-35 stealth military jets. Berlin has previously announced that it will invest more in defense in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The unique shape of the plane, as well as a special coating, make it hard for radar to detect

Germany has decided in principle to purchase the U.S. fighter jet F-35 built by Lockheed Martin to replace its ageing Tornado fleet, according to reports on Monday.

The decision, if confirmed, comes after German Chancellor Olaf Scholz last month announced a massive boost in defense spending as the Ukraine conflict forces Berlin to reassess its foreign and defense policies.

Berlin is reportedly seeking to use the Lockheed Martin planes to replace the country's Tornado fleet, introduced more than 40 years ago.

The F-35 is considered the world's most modern combat aircraft. Its unique shape and outer coating, make the jet difficult for enemy radar to detect.

According to sources, Germany plans to buy up to 35 of the planes.
In light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Scholz said he would bring the nation's investments above a key NATO commitment 2% of GDP.

Concerns had previously arisen that buying the F-35 aircraft could scupper joint plans with France to build a joint European combat aircraft.

This breaking news article will be updated.

Su-57 was used during the military operation in Ukraine

Yuri Stepanov

Су-57 применили в ходе военной операции на Украине

The Russian Aerospace Forces used the latest fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jets during the operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine. This is evidenced by footage filmed by an eyewitness in the Zhytomyr region. A Russian combat aircraft hit an APU facility in front of the bridge, most likely a fortified checkpoint.

This is the first documented case of the use of the most modern combat vehicles as part of the Aerospace Forces in Ukraine.

It is noteworthy that the Su-57 was used as a bomber, although it is a classic fighter, albeit a multifunctional one. Considering that portable anti-aircraft missile systems are actively used by the enemy in Ukraine, flights of the Su-57 at such low altitudes can be dangerous, because the missile of the same Stinger has an infrared (thermal) homing head.

On the other hand, Russian designers have repeatedly pointed out that the latest fighter is equipped with an unrivaled on-board defense system based on electronic warfare. It is possible that the Su-57 received complete invulnerability from enemy MANPADS and therefore operates from low altitudes without any fear.

Australia spent billions on jet fighters off the plan. Now, we're having trouble even flying them

Richard E

Published: March 3, 2022 2.10am GMT

There’s a problem with Australia’s brand new fighter jet – it’s just not that reliable. As a result, it flies about 25% less than it should. Less flying means fewer well-trained pilots, but it also hints at other problems lurking in the background.

Everybody who buys a house or apartment off the plan knows there may be some surprises along the way. Australia’s fighter jets are the same.

Why Australia bought these jets

Australia committed to its new F-35 fighters off the plan in 2002. At the time, the F-35 was still a twinkle in the eyes of Lockheed Martin’s marketers. The US and several European countries had commissioned the aerospace company to design, build and manufacture the F-35, with the first step being a prototype.

Australia’s plan was to buy four squadrons – about 72 jets in total – at a cost of around A$16 billion. The F-35 was intended to replace the air force’s ageing Hornet fighters and F-111 bombers. And back in 2002, when Middle East wars were raging, a short-range stealth fighter seemed more than adequate.

But by 2010, with China firmly on the rise, it became apparent this was a poor strategy. In retrospect, a key error was looking at the F-35 simply as a replacement aircraft without first assessing the changing strategic environment. But by then, too much money had been sunk into the F-35 program to change course.

Then, the F-35 development ran late, and the first tranches of Australia’s fleet weren’t ready to be deployed on operations until December 2020.....continue reading

Фото затонувшего корабля Василий Быков оказалось фейком

Not a day passes without the dissemination of many frames of supposedly “victories” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the network. Upon closer examination, it turns out that they have nothing to do with reality.

A photo of the allegedly sunken Russian ship Vasily Bykov, circulated on Ukrainian Telegram channels, near the port of Odessa turned out to be fake.

The authors claimed, with reference to the Naval Forces of Ukraine (VMSU), that the ship was allegedly hit and soon sank. However, upon closer examination of the published image, it turned out that the Estonian civilian vessel Helt was captured on the frame.

Telegram

Judging by the outlines of the hull, it is a long, flat deck with a superstructure at the back. Such decks have ships Helt. The dark area on the left is the nose. However, for the Vasily Bykov ships, the superstructure is located in the front part closer to the middle of the hull.

According to Igor Ilves, manager of the management company Vista Shipping Agensu, the Estonian ship sank after hitting a mine.

“The ship has completely sunk. Two crew members are on the raft, and four more are missing , ” Izvestia reported the words of Ilves .

On the morning of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation and announced the start of a special operation to protect Donbass from Ukrainian aggressors. The Russian leader stressed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine resumed massive shelling of residential areas of the LPR and DPR. Kyiv ignored attempts to resolve the conflict through diplomacy, so Russia decided to provide military support to the self-proclaimed republics. According to VTsIOM, this decision is supported by every third Russian polled.

The Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly stressed that the fire is only on military infrastructure, and with high-precision weapons. However, at the same time, stuffing and unreliable information began to appear on the network more and more often. Each message should be carefully checked with official sources.

Earlier, 5-tv.ru said that a torture chamber was found in the village of Kryakovka.  From this settlement, the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired at the positions of the LPR for eight years.
