L3Harris, Northrop Awarded Air Force F-16 Electronic Warfare Prototype OTAs – GovCon Wire

The U.S. Air Force has awarded L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) and Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) other transaction agreements to develop and demonstrate electronic warfare system prototypes for the service branch’s F-16 fighter jets.

The service issued the OTAs under the SOSSEC Consortium’s Air Force Open System Acquisition Initiative and L3Harris said Thursday it will build and test an integrated electronic countermeasures digital radar warning receiver system designed to protect F-16s from radar threats.

Ed Zoiss, president of space and airborne systems at L3Harris, said the company will leverage technologies and innovations brought together as a result of the merger to deliver an integrated EW suite.

Northrop said it will demonstrate a digital radar warning receiver and an electronic warfare suite prototype under the OTA. The prototype project includes the delivery of threat identification, spherical radar warning and countermeasure capabilities to safeguard pilots from modern threats in the electromagnetic spectrum.

L3Harris and Northrop will partner with non-traditional defense contractors on the prototyping projects.
