MOSCOW, June 27. / TASS /. The head frigate of Project 22350 Admiral Gorshkov of the Northern Fleet went to sea to conduct second test firing with the latest Russian Zircon hypersonic missile. This was reported by TASS two sources in the military-industrial complex.

“On Saturday, Gorshkov went to sea from the Belomorsky Naval Base for a second test launch of the Zircon rocket,” one agency source said. A second source noted that the launch of the rocket from the frigate “should take place in the next two weeks.”

The interlocutors specified that an extensive program of launching the Zircon from Gorshkov was planned for 2020, the ship could fire a rocket up to seven times. “But the deadlines have moved significantly - the second launch was originally supposed to take place in mid-spring,” one source said.

According to the interlocutors, the main reason for the transfer of test firing was the situation with the coronavirus.

TASS does not have official confirmation of the information provided by the sources.

At the beginning of April, Admiral Gorshkov left for the Belomorsk base to service and load the Zircon hypersonic missile for the next test firing. It was expected that the second launch will be carried out from the ship in April-May.

Tests of Zircon

For the first time, Zircon was used from a standard marine carrier in early January of this year (according to other sources, at the end of December 2019): Admiral Gorshkov fired a rocket from the Barents Sea at a distance of more than 500 km at a coastal target. Prior to this, test launches were conducted from a ground stand or specially prepared pontoons.

To launch the Zircon missiles, the universal ship firing complex (UKSK) 3S-14 is used. Such launchers, in particular, are equipped with frigates of project 22350, corvettes of project 20380, in the version for submarines - multi-purpose submarines of the Ash type.
