iXblue has been contracted to deliver its navigation systems for the Spanish Navy’s five new F110-class multi-mission frigates.

The contract has been signed between Spain Directorate General for Armament and Material (DGAM) and iXblue´s official distributor Grafinta.

Under the order, iXblue will provide its Marins Series inertial navigation systems (INS) and Netans Navigation Data Distribution & Computation Systems.

iXblue Marins INS is based on the fibre-optic gyroscope (FOG) technology and integrated with Netans data distribution and processing units.

iXblue regional sales manager Carlos Lopes said: “Our Marins INS already being used by the Spanish Navy and having received very positive feedback from the crews, they knew that they would meet the F110-Class multi-mission Frigates requirements for robustness and performance.

“The F110 frigates are going to be equipped with the most advanced technologies available to naval platforms today and will need to be able to face the threats posed by the spoofing and jamming of GNSS signals, Our INS and data distribution units will help do just that.

“We are proud to be onboard such major programme and would like to thank the DGAM and the Spanish Navy for their renewed trust in our technology.”

The F110-class multi-mission vessels are being developed by Navantia for the Spanish Navy. They are also referred to as Bonifaz Class.

The multi-mission frigates with anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities will be used in fleet protection, maritime security, joint and combined missions. The vessels will be deployed to counter conventional and asymmetric threats.

iXblue noted that the first F110-class frigate is expected to be deployed in 2026. The remaining four vessels will be delivered by 2031.

Last September, iXblue delivered the cyber security navigation system for the first Defense and Intervention Frigate (FDI) for the French Navy.
