MOSCOW, (BM) – Increasing the Russian missile complex Hermes’ combat power is part of the plans of the state-owned company Rostec. This information was provided by Bekhan Ozdoev, who is the industrial director of the Rostek weapons complex.

The missile system is currently testing at the Kapustin Yar test site. However, Bekhan Ozdoev says that Moscow intends to develop version 2.0 of the system – greater combat power and higher flight speed of the launched missile. According to the Russian expert, the Hermes missile system has substantial unsuspected potential, and it would not be logical if the Kremlin does not take action to improve it.
“In this regard, experimental design works are planned, which envisage increasing the combat power of the missile by two – two and a half times and increasing its flight speed. This design will be a version of the Hermes 2.0 complex,” Bekhan Ozdoev was quoted as saying from RIA Novosti.
The tests currently conducted on the system confirm its main characteristics – autonomous mode of operation, guidance system, and more. We remind you that this Russian system has a multiplatform nature – Hermes can install it on armored vehicles, ships, or unmanned aerial vehicles.
What is the Hermes missile complex?
The Hermes complex engages modern and advanced tanks, armored vehicles, structures, ground targets, and low-speed aircraft with a range of up to 100 kilometers. The base version of the missile develops a speed of up to 1.3 thousand meters per second and has an explosive fragmentation warhead of 28 kilograms.
“Hermes” can be mounted on any chassis of a medium or large tonnage vehicle. For example, the KBP website demonstrates the possibility of installing the KamAZ complex. In this version, Hermes has six starters. The missiles of the complex, the developers, specify, have a high accuracy of impact. According to the onboard inertial navigation system’s data, the ammunition flew to the target first due to navigation signals from the ground. When arriving in the target area, the missile catches it with its self-guided head.
We learned about Hermes last year
We learned about the Hermes missile complex last year when Rostec presented its version at the International Military-Technical Exhibition in Russia – Army 2020. Russian military engineers then told reporters that the missile system was effective both during the day and night.
There is no information on whether the Russian Hermes missile system sold to foreign customers. Despite the Russians’ claims that the system uses air, sea, and land, there are only two confirmed versions of Hermes – Hermes-A, which is an air-launched Hermes-K, which is the naval version.
