A few days ago, the new head of the US Department of Defense, Lloyd Austin, announced that the United States of America was ready to provide all kinds of support to its Japanese allies, including in military terms. In this regard, in Russia they started talking about the potential aggravation of the conflict over the possession of the Kuril Islands.
Let us recall that Japan still does not want to recognize the Kuril Islands as part of the sovereign territory of the Russian Federation. They consider them part of their own state, and have repeatedly stated that they are ready to regain control over them to themselves, up to military intervention.
In this regard, the Russian side decided to increase its presence in this region, including through the transfer of the most modern samples of domestic military equipment. We are talking about the 5th generation Su-57 fighters.
Currently, the Russian Aerospace Forces has only 1 sample of serial assembly. However, according to the plans of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, by 2028 the number of Su-57 fighters will be increased by another 76 units. In addition, the military-industrial complex reports that the country's enterprises are ready to increase the rate of production and supply an additional 24 fighters to the Russian Aerospace Forces.
In the short term, namely by 2023, 12 fighters should be delivered to the troops. Their presence will make it possible to send at least one link to the Kuril Islands region in order to nullify all the Japanese side's desires for provocations.
Since Japan, like the United States, by the way, does not have effective means to combat our 5th generation fighters, their presence in the region will call into question the success of any military operation.
