Air Force Chief of Staff Huang Chih-wei says that 42 of a planned 141 F-16A/B fighter jets have been upgraded to F-16V jets. Huang was speaking before the Legislature’s defense and foreign affairs committee on Wednesday.
Lockheed Martin and Taiwan’s Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation are upgrading the jets at a cost of NT$110 billion (US$3.9 billion). The project is slated for completion in 2023.
Huang said that the upgraded jets will be faster and have a wider range that will cover almost all of Taiwan’s air space.
