Ulyanovsk. 2nd of March. INTERFAX - Five new heavy military transport aircraft will enter the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) in 2021, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

"In 2020, we received three aircraft, and we plan for 2021 - five aircraft. It is necessary to reach the level of 10 aircraft per year in the future," Shoigu said during a visit to the Ulyanovsk Aviastar-SP enterprise.

"This is not an easy task. Today we will hear how it will be solved," the minister said.

According to him, in the future, it is necessary to produce 20 new and modernized Il-76MD-90A aircraft per year, so that by 2030 their fleet will exceed 250 aircraft.

Aviastar-SP (part of the UAC transport aviation division, whose parent enterprise is Il PJSC) specializes in the production of Il-76MD-90A transport aircraft, the creation of the Il-78M-90A tanker on its basis, as well as the maintenance of An -124 Ruslan.

The Il-76MD-90A is the second generation of the Il-76 heavy military transport aircraft. Unlike the combat Il-76MD, they are equipped with more powerful and economical PS-90A-76 engines with a thrust of up to 14.5 tons instead of the "standard" D-30KP2 engines with a thrust of up to 12 tons.

According to the manufacturer, the new aircraft has increased carrying capacity and delivery range of troops and cargo. Thus, the possibility of delivering goods weighing 52 tons has been increased to 5,000 kilometers. The maximum load is up to 60 tons. The Il-76MD-90A can carry 126 paratroopers with parachutes, 145 personnel in a single-deck version and 225 in a double-deck version. The aircraft is capable of transporting and landing modern BMDs, armored personnel carriers, self-propelled guns and other equipment of the Airborne Forces.
