Russia deploys S-400 to Arctic | Jane's 360
Russia has deployed the S-400 air defence system to its Arctic islands for the first time, the press department of the Northern Fleet announced on 16 September.
"A Northern Fleet air defence forces surface-to-air missile [SAM] regiment stationed on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago's Yuzhny Island has been fully re-equipped with the new S-400," said the press department in a statement, adding that the unit's personnel had been retrained to operate the new systems.
The SAM regiment previously operated systems of the S-300 family. "Re-equipping with the S-400 has resulted in a major increase in the air defence coverage of the Arctic," the press department said.
