SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Yonhap) -- Defense industry units of Hanwha Group, a South Korean energy-to-chemical conglomerate, said Tuesday that they are promoting products at a defense industry exhibition in Australia this week.

In Land Forces 2018, which runs from Tuesday to Thursday in Adelaide, Hanwha Land Systems and Hanwha Defense Systems are showcasing a prototype of the AS21 Redback armored vehicle, a self-propelled antiaircraft gun and other defense systems, the conglomerate said in a statement. The AS21 will be an advanced version of the K21 infantry fighting vehicle currently in the South Korean Army, which incorporates the latest developments in protection, maneuverability and firepower.

"The Land Forces exhibition is very important for Hanwha as it may offer an opportunity to enter the Australian defense industry market. We will aggressively promote our competitive products and solutions to gain trust from the Australian defense ministry," it said.

Hanwha introduced the AS21 Redback in the exhibition with an aim to win the armored tracked vehicle project Land 400 Phase 3 offered by Australia's military forces, the statement added.

The Australian military authorities plan to select a company to supply 400 armored vehicles in late 2022, it said.

The two Hanwha affiliates are the only Korean companies that took part in Land Forces 2018, the company said.
