Units of the 19th and 20th motorized rifle divisions of the Southern Military District (YuVO) will be equipped with modernized T-90M Proryv tanks. Izvestia was informed about this by sources in the RF Ministry of Defense.

The ministry recalled that in April, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the buildup of the Southern Military District's capabilities due to NATO's attempts to destabilize the situation in the Transcaucasus and the Middle East. To repel the threats Moscow needed additional forces.

As the official representative of the Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov emphasized, the conflicts of recent years have shown that the most optimal weapon has been and remains a tank, and a powerful group of vehicles is the country's main trump card.

The T-90M tank was created as part of the Proryv-3 development work and became a further modernization of the T-90AM. The key difference between the vehicle and previous models is a new turret with ammunition storage located outside the fighting compartment. In addition, the tank is equipped with a modernized 125-mm 2A82-1M cannon with an increased barrel length and a new Kalina fire control system.

As representatives of "Uralvagonzavod" previously said, the maximum efficiency of the use of the tank's armament was achieved due to the installation of an automatic target tracking in the thermal imaging channel of the sight, as well as due to equalization of the search capabilities of the gunner and commander, which makes it possible to organize a highly effective "hunter-shooter" mode in the fire control system ...

The new modular explosive reactive armor "Relikt" dampens the impact of modern weapons and has a higher maintainability. "The installation of an electromagnetic protection system is directed against mines equipped with magnetometric fuses," the UVZ added.

Serial deliveries of the T-90M to the troops began in 2021.
