The
Philippine Air Force (PAF) has selected the Sikorsky S-70 Black Hawk for its
combat-utility helicopter (CUH) programme, Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana
confirmed on 7 December.
Lorenzana said
the proposed procurement, valued at USD240 million, was for 16 units and that
the Department of National Defense (DND) hoped to finalise the deal early in
2019. The Black Hawks will be operated by the service's 205th Tactical
Helicopter Wing, which is engaged in tactical, logistics, and combat missions.
The PAF's
technical working group "has come up with a recommendation that the Black
Hawk is the best option that [the PAF] could buy, so we will pursue that,"
Lorenzana said.
